Attentional Bias – when your thoughts control what you see

Electric editorial collage illustrating Attentional Bias

Do you notice only what’s on your mind? That’s Attentional Bias – the tendency to focus on information related to your current thoughts or concerns while ignoring everything else.

Where it can show up

- Shopping – you want a new car and suddenly see it everywhere.
- Fears – afraid of plane crashes, so you feel like they happen all the time.
- Relationships – convinced people dislike you, so you only notice signs of rejection.

A practical countermeasure

- Understand that perception isn’t always objective – your brain adjusts reality to fit your thoughts.
- Practice mindfulness – be aware of what you focus on.
- Question your conclusions – are you seeing the full picture or just a selective part?
