Context Neglect Bias – when technology forgets about people

Do you build complex systems without considering how real people will use them? That’s Context Neglect Bias – the tendency to solve technological challenges without accounting for human behavior and needs.
Where it can show up
- IT & UX – a system is highly functional, but users struggle with its interface.
- Security – strong passwords protect accounts, but people write them down on sticky notes.
- AI & Automation – an algorithm makes decisions, but no one can explain its logic to users.
A practical countermeasure
- Put people at the center of decisions – technology should be useful, not just advanced.
- Test with real users – if a system works in theory but frustrates users, it’s a failure.
- Remember that humans aren’t machines – if your solution relies on perfect user behavior, it’s doomed.
