Women Are Wonderful Effect – when women are seen more positively than men

Do you think women are naturally kinder, more honest, and caring? That’s Women Are Wonderful Effect – the tendency to associate more positive attributes with women than with men, regardless of actual behavior.
Where it can show up
- Social stereotypes – society expects women to be more gentle and virtuous, even when behavior doesn’t match expectations.
- Judging actions – the same behavior is seen differently: a strict man is ‘harsh,’ while a strict woman is ‘fair.’
- Media & culture – female characters in films are often portrayed as morally superior to men.
A practical countermeasure
- Judge people by their actions, not their gender – moral qualities aren’t determined by sex.
- Watch for double standards – if men and women do the same thing but are perceived differently, bias is at play.
- Look at real data – a positive bias toward one group doesn’t always mean objectivity.
