Bandwagon Effect – when you believe or do something just because everyone else does

Did everyone suddenly start wearing weird sneakers – and now you want them too? That’s Bandwagon Effect – the tendency to follow the majority, even without good reasons.
Where it can show up
- Fashion & trends – people buy products or use services just because they’re popular, not because they actually need them.
- Investing & finance – hype around stocks or crypto leads people to invest without understanding real value.
- Politics & beliefs – supporting ideas or candidates simply because the majority does, not because of informed decisions.
A practical countermeasure
- Ask yourself: do I actually need this? – popularity doesn’t equal quality.
- Check the facts – the majority can be wrong, especially in complex topics.
- Make conscious choices – better to stand out than blindly follow the crowd.
