A practical countermeasure
- Remember that numbers represent real people – statistics hide real lives behind the figures.
- Be aware of emotional bias – just because you only empathize with visible suffering doesn’t mean the unseen is less important.
- Balance emotion with reason – helping individuals matters, but decisions should account for the bigger picture.
