Anthropocentric Thinking – when everything is judged by human standards

Electric editorial collage illustrating Anthropocentric Thinking

Do you assume animals think and feel just like humans? That’s Anthropocentric Thinking – the tendency to use human experiences as the basis for understanding everything else, even if it operates on completely different principles.

Where it can show up

- Animals – “A dog is smiling, so it must be happy” (but bared teeth might signal stress).
- Nature – “Trees take care of their children,” though it’s just biological processes.
- The Universe – “The universe wants something from us,” but that’s just human projection.

A practical countermeasure

- Remember that the world doesn’t revolve around humans – other creatures and systems have their own rules.
- Learn scientific explanations – emotions and behaviors in nature often differ from human ones.
- Be open to changing perspectives – if something seems ‘human-like,’ it might not actually be.
