Impostor Syndrome – when you fear being ‘exposed’ as a fraud

Do you achieve success but still feel like you're just faking it? That’s Impostor Syndrome – the tendency to downplay your achievements and fear that others will soon ‘expose’ you as incompetent.

Where it can show up

- Work – you get a promotion but believe it was a mistake, and that soon everyone will realize you’re ‘not good enough.’
- Education – you pass exams but think it was just luck rather than your actual knowledge.
- Creative fields – even with recognition and success, you feel like your ideas ‘aren’t that great’ and people will figure it out soon.

A practical countermeasure

- Remember that success isn’t just luck – if you achieved something, it’s because of your efforts.
- Compare yourself to real standards, not perfection – everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn’t make them impostors.
- Accept compliments and recognition – if people value your work, it means you’re actually good at it.
